PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
As Managing Director of the Telehealth Strategies Group of Potomac Strategies International LLC, Mrs. Trutanic advises domestic and international clients on health informatics, privacy, and telemedicine policy issues, focusing on technology advancements, strategic development and marketing strategies. An attorney specializing in telecommunications and health care, she was appointed by FCC Chairman Reed Hundt to the Federal Communications Commission's Advisory Committee on Health and Telecommunications in 1996. Mrs. Trutanic has been an advisor to the Office of the Vice President and to Mrs. Gore on health related projects: e.g., the Vice President's 1998 Family Re-Union: Families and Health; innovative forms of service delivery in the treatment of mental illness and substance abuse, development of Federal policies to facilitate the use of telemedicine and other advances in technology. She has advised the Office of Rural Health Policy of the Department of Health and Human Services on a variety of telemedicine matters, including the Universal Services funds available to health care organizations under the Telecommunications Act of 1996. She helped establish the Marshall Legacy Institute, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to delivering telemedicine and health information services to emerging democracies around the world.
During 1993-1997, Mrs. Trutanic represented the Office of Tipper Gore on the Joint Working Group on Telemedicine for the Department of Health and Human Services, and was a member of the Health Information Applications Working Group (HIAWG) for the Committee on Applications and Technology for the Information Infrastructure Task Force (IITF). In 1995, she organized the first exhibit ever held on the uses of technology in the fields of mental health and substance abuse services, at the Partners for Change© conference sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services.
In the Carter Administration, Mrs. Trutanic worked for the President's Commission on Mental Health, chaired by First Lady Rosalynn Carter, for the White House Conference on Small Business as Director of Commission activities, and for Sarah Weddington, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs.
During the 1980's, Mrs. Trutanic practiced law with the Washington D.C. firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding, specializing in telecommunications and administrative law. Prior to entering practice, she served as Vice President and Director of National Telephone Systems, a South Carolina-based company providing long distance and alternative local access telecommunications in Georgia and South Carolina.
Mrs. Trutanic has
been a member of the Board of Visitors of Children's Hospital since 1989
and is a member and officer of the Board of Directors of the Institute
of Advanced Studies in Immunology & Aging, an international non-profit
health organization. She has also been actively involved in other
charitable activities, including the Children's Defense Fund, the I Have
a Dream Foundation and Stand for Children. Mrs. Trutanic is a member of
the California and District of Columbia Bar Associations and the American
Telemedicine Association.
